New York City Holiday Locations
Feel Like the Main Character at These Five Cinematic New York City Holiday Locations

December 4, 2023 – Holiday movies and New York City seem to go hand-in-hand. New York in December seems to resemble a metropolitan snow globe that is unforgettable and breathtaking, making it the most desirable travel location during the season of giving. Many of our favorite holiday movies that we grew up with take place in the Big Apple, so if you are going to the city for the holidays you might as well let yourself have your own main character moment.

1. Central Park

Central Park is by far the most obvious choice. This wintery landscape is like a wonderland forest surrounded by majestic skyscrapers, it feels like a fairytale. Classic films such as Home Alone 2 (1992) and Elf (2003) have iconic scenes in the majestic park. When walking by the Gapstow Bridge or Bethesda Fountain, you will feel like the protagonist in a holiday flick.

2. The Plaza Hotel

Whether it’s the holiday season or not, the Plaza is the Manhattan staple every traveler must see. Featured in many films, the Plaza outside has a luxury that looks even better when it’s dusted with snow. Inside the hotel, it has a warm color palette and cozy textures that make you feel like you’re right at home. Luckily, the lobby is open for visitors to walk in and see, so even if you can’t afford to stay there, you can have your moment (or even a photoshoot) in the lobby.

3. The Rockefeller Christmas Tree

Is this attraction a tourist trap? We will be honest, it is. However, seeing the Rockefeller Tree is an infectious experience. Being surrounded by the excited energy of others feels like a communal pilgrimage experience. The warm twinkling lights shining upon your frost-bitten nose will certainly give you the cinematic moment that you’ve been looking for.

4. Macy’s at Herald Square

Macy’s at Herald Square is the ultimate holiday location. The yuletide window displays alone are a spectacle to see and walking inside feels like you’re walking into a romantic December dream. Macy’s is the location of the 1947 classic Miracle on 34th Street. Have your own old Hollywood experience while walking through the flagship retailer.

5. The Empire State Building

The Empire State Building truly feels like the epicenter of Manhattan. Take the elevator to the tippy-top and take in the snowy sky view. This is a seasonal photoshoot waiting to happen. Featured in the 2003 classic Elf, this scenic structure is a destination you cannot miss during the holiday season.

When you visit New York this December, make sure you add these spots to your itinerary. You cannot allow yourself to miss the experience. You deserve to feel like the main character. You at least deserve to have your instagram feed look glamorous. Get ready for your close-up gorgeous, it’s your time to shine!
